Julio Girona; Cuban painter, sculptor, and poet, recognized for his extensive creative work encompassing various currents from figuration to abstract art. In this regard, critic Orlando Hernández stated, "... Girona has traversed many possible paths, symbolic abstraction, gestural painting, the sign, spatialism, and in none has he been able to completely free himself from the 'punishment' of analogies..." He received significant international recognition, such as a scholarship for studies in Paris (1955), Sculpture Prize at the Paris Biennial (1961), and National Prize for Plastic Arts in Cuba (1995).
