Description: An antiquarian edition of Les Voyages Extraordinaires, Le Superbe Orenoque by Jules Verne with illustrations by George Roux. The book, which is in French, was published by J. Hetzel et Co. as part of it's Collection Hetzel in the late 1800s/early 1900s. While the book is undated, it is believed to have been released in the 1880s and possibly a first edition though this cannot be guaranteed. The book is bound in red clothwith a fabulously colourful front cover with blue, green and gilt decor. The spine carries the same design. The outer page edges are full gilt and have retained their lustre. Inside there are 18 full-page coloured / tinted illustrations along with numerous black and white illustrations.Condition: The book is intact and the binding is secure though there is binding ribbon showing on the first blank page. The cover and spine are worn though the gilt detail is relatively good. The first blank page has a Bucarest Library stamp and signature. There are marks and a little foxing to the title page and light, occasional foxing throughout but on the whole, it's a lovely volume. Please note that we sell vintage books and as such these are rarely perfect. This is a lovely book but is secondhand and old so please see the photos to make sure you'll be happy with its condition - these form part of the description.
