Description: This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime piece. It measures 23x32 1/2 in. Including the frame and it looks like the piece would be almost exactly the same size as the frame. Jules tavernier is a well-known American artist and this piece was produced for Harper's weekly November 30th of 1883 and Mr tavernier passed away in 1889. Mr tavernier was also an important member of the Hawaii volcano School which only adds to the desirability of this piece. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about this piece. As you can see from the photos it is hand colored although I confess I'm not sure of the production method but I believe it to be an etching. There is no dot pattern like you would see on a modern print. It's reasonably expensive to ship as is with its plexiglass frame as shown but I could ship it rolled in a super strong PVC tube if that is a better method for you. It can also be picked up near Gainesville Florida if you prefer.
