THE BICCARD COLLECTION QUEEN The basic shape of the Queen is that of the horn of a rhinoceros. The story goes that in a make believe land, the Queen kept a rhinoceros in her garden. This was no ordinary rhinoceros and was kept in the garden because he made excellent fertiliser for the Queen's roses. These roses were the most beautiful in the land and pleased the Queen greatly. Out of gratitude to the rhinoceros, she had a rose engraved on the back of the home of the rhinoceros. The rhinoceros was very pleased and enjoyed looking at the rose. He became mesmerised and then hypnotised by this rose. He was then known as the Hypnoceros. Being in a hypnotic trance, he was not able to carry out his duties in the royal garden. He bumped into things and trampled down all the plants and shrubs. Because the Queen knew his real worth, he was not banned from the garden, but everyone in the land who thought that they could break a hypnotic spell was summoned to break the spell of the rhinoceros. After many days, erls, bishops, princes, princesses and other noble people had all tried and failed. However, they had all discovered one particular thing, and that was that the Hypnoceros adored the Queen. So she had her own likeness engraved on the front of the horn but revealing only her eyes. The Hypnoceros was now able to find his way around once again, using the Queen's eyes. He began to eat and became less clumsy and in a short time once again began to produce the excellent fertiliser for the Queen's roses. And it was not long before the Queen's garden bloomed again with the most beautiful roses in the land. These pieces are made in modest quantities from ground marble, and are already collectors' items. They are intended to be handled, viewed from all angles and to make you smile, thus giving pleasure. Each piece carries the artist's monogram. (Direct sunlight may cause colour tone chan
