Description: NOTE: ALL ORDERS WILL SHIP IN OCTOBER-DECEMBER WHEN THE PLANTS ARE FRESHLY DUG (& not frozen) - FOR FALL PLANTING Sunchoke, also known as: Jerusalem Artichokes, Sunroot, Topinambur, Earth Apple, Wild Sunflower, and yes, the Fartichoke (see notes on this below) Scientific name: Helianthus tuberosus Native Range: North America: central / eastern USA and Canada USDA Zone 3-9 You are purchasing a set of plant-able (or edible!) tubers for your garden, similar to bulbs. This is the perfect starter set for years of sunchokes in your garden! They should be planted as soon as possible after you receive them, or put into storage in cold soil, as they are perishable. Plant in fall to early spring, as long as the ground is not frozen. Store in soil or compost in a cold to cool environment if you can't plant within 1 week of receipt. Grow in full sun, medium moisture soil. Tall plant - grows 3-10 feet depending on maturity and soil / sun conditions. Harvest tubers for eating and transplanting in fall when the leaves turn brown, through spring as long as you can dig into the soil. Or harvest and store in soil just above freezing temperature for winter access. Zero waste / 100% upcycled packaging. My favorite RECIPE included with your shipment, for fall faux artichoke bisque :) Regarding the “fartichoke” name, yes, gas can happen but is significantly reduced if the sunchokes are fully cooked, especially boiled as this reduces the inulin content that can be hard to digest.
