Description: Jean Luce et le renouveau de la table française (1910 - 1960), French book Jean Luce et le renouveau de la table française (1910 - 1960), French book This hardcover book with 304 color pages presents the work of Jean Luce (1895 - 1964). Jean Luce is, at barely 30 years old, the only designer specializing in tableware to have a personal space at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925. His long career, which began in 1911 at the Museum Galliera Exhibition and ended in 1962, spans many movements of the 20th century, from the very first emergence of Art Deco to post-war functionalism. First admired, in the 1920s, for its quality and originality of its floral and then geometric decorations and ornaments, it established itself, from the 1930s, thanks to its work on the renewal of the forms of table services. Pierre Chareau, Charlotte Perriand, Robert Mallet-Stevens or Djo-Bourgeois do not hesitate to feature his models on their stands or in their interiors. To respond to orders from prestigious clients, such as the Maharajah of Indore or Paul Cavrois, Jean Luce personalizes some of his services. Other pieces are aimed at a wider audience, which he reaches both in France thanks to his points of sale such as the Steph Simon gallery or the Magasins Pilotes, as well as in the United States where he established himself in 1927. Always on the lookout for technical and industrial innovations, he collaborated after the Second World War with brands like Duralex, which allowed him to continue his reflection on functionalism. Richly illustrated, in particular by the Jean Luce collection deposited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris as well as by unpublished archives from different manufacturers, this work restores a first biography of Jean Luce, but also the work of his contemporaries like Marcel Goupy, Suzanne Lalique, Francis Jourdain or even publishing houses such as Rouard, Le Grand Dépôt et DIM.
