Description: JAPANESE KITAGAWA UTAMARO UKIYO-E WOODBLOCK PRINT 'WOMAN BLOWING POPEN' You are being offered a Framed Reprint of an Antique Japanese Woodcut or Woodblock Print by the famous Woodblock Artist, Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806) titled ‘’Woman Blowing Popen” from the series “Ten Classes of Women’s Physiognomy (Facial Expressions)’’ and it depicts a Young Woman of the Pleasure Quarters (Red Light District) blowing on a Toy Glass Noisemaker called a “Popen” or "Poppen". The Original Print was created by Utamaro during the Edo Period, circa 1792-1793; but this Reprint, which has the Pattern on the Woman’s Kimono differing from the Original, was most likely made during the Showa Period, (1926-1989) and the Artist’s Red Seal is in the Print’s Upper-Right Corner and the Publisher’s Red Seal is in its Lower-Left Corner. The Print, which is framed under Glass in a Wood Frame, measures 12 inches high and 7¾ inches wide, and the Frame measures 15 inches high and 9½ inches wide. The Paper has darkened in several places; otherwise the Woodblock Print and its Frame are in Very Good Condition, without any other issues.
