Description: Five books hand written by sumi brush on Japanese hand made washi paper from 1868. Each book is dated on the back (In Japanese) The fourth month of "Keio 4" (1868) The books are numbered in ascending order # 4, 5, 7, 8 & 10. So books numbered 1, 2, 3, 6, & 9 are missing. Condition is obvious in the photos. Book # 4 has some extensive insect damage. Handmade washi paper is acid free and insects seem to love it. A common problem with older Japanese books. Book # 5 and # 8 have some insect damage. Books # 7 & 10 are free of any damage. These books are difficult to read. My very educated Japanese wife could get the general idea, but "Very difficult". Older Japanese is more difficult to read as the kanji characters were simplified over the years. Also the authors "Willow" writing style makes reading more difficult. The authors name, also written on the back, is Shigekiyo Ota. (Ota is the family name) We have been selling Japanese antiques for 25 years.
