I bought this mask (along with others) off a woman who moved to America from Japan just 9 months earlier. We got to talking as we exchanged money and transferred the mask (and others which are listed). She was rather young. She told me she was adjusting to life in the states and she had a new boyfriend. The boyfriend was young also and excitable guy. She told me her father sent her these masks from Japan because the small town she was from was known for making these masks. She sighed and her face now sad, "He sent them to me so I wouldn't forget where I came from, so I wouldn't forget..." I hesitated as I was wrapping them into my car and the very happy go lucky boyfriend helped me. He excitedly said "Now I can hang my Jerseys above the door, we have a small apartment and now we have so much wall space." "But look at me, selling them..." She said defeated.We stood there for a good minute. I told her we could cancel the whole transaction, we didn't have to go through with it. The boyfriend was confused and she smiled & declined.They drove off and I kept them for years, remembering her.
