Finally the Archival Pigment Ink print (also referred as Digigraph** ) *Giclée a neologism coined in 1991 by printmaker Jack Duganne for fine art digital prints made on inkjet printers using short dye ink lifespan and vulnerable in daylight at the time of technological evolution. **Digigraphs are artwork generated by computers (as opposed to photographs, which are images generated by light). They are also known as 'Pigment Ink Prints' or 'Archival Ink Prints' as the are Pigment and not Dye-based inks with long Archival value usually above 120+ years under museum lighting standards. History of printing: Woodblock printing 200 CE, Movable type 1040, Printing press 1453, Etching 1515, Mezzotint 1642, Aquatint 1772, Lithography 1796, Chromolithography 1837, Screen printing 1910, Photocopying 1938, Inkjet printing 1951, Dot matrix printer 1968, Laser printing 1969, Giclee 4 color Dye Inkjet printing 1991, Pigment Archival Inkjet printing early 2000's (using 6~12 color print heads). * * *The conventions for numbering prints are well-established, but other marks may indicate that a print has been made in addition to the numbered prints of an edition. Artist's proofs are marked "A. P." or "P/A", sometimes E. A. or E. d'A. (épreuve d'artiste); monoprints and uniquely hand-altered prints are marked "unique"; prints that are given to someone or are for some reason unsuitable for sale are marked "H. C." or "H/C", meaning "hors de commerce", not for sale. These are usually prints reserved for the publisher, like Artist's Proofs. The printer is also often allowed to retain some proof impressions; these are marked "P. P." Finally, a master image may be printed against which the members of the edition are compared for quality: these are marked as "bon à tirer" or "BAT" ("good to print" in French). In all, the number of the main edition can represent 50% or less of the total number of good impressions taken. * * * Jannis PSYCHOPEDIS on Artprice * * * Provenance: Directly from my personal collection.
