Description: Pair of solid bronze bookends by Isidore Konti cast 1911. Konti produced several allegorical figural bookends, this was his first model, created in 1909. Many castings of Konti's bookend figures - were made and sold through commercial outlets such as Gorham's, Theodore Starr, Doll & Richards, and various other galleries through to the early 1920's.". Many, like this early pair, were cast at Roman Bronze Works. See images from "The Sculpture of Isidore Konti 1862-1938," by The Hudson River Museum at Yonkers, New York, for their 1975 Konti exhibition. Each signed “I. Konti Sc” and “Roman Bronze Works N-Y-“ foundry marking on one. Condition is excellent with fine original dark brown patina with almost no wear. Base measures 6 1/2” x 3 1/2”x 6 1/2” high to the shoulder of the figure, the pair weigh 10 lbs 5 oz. Fully insured shipping required, most of the cost is insurance.
