Description: Intaglio 1799 Skull & Crossbones Washington Funeral Medal BU Ultra High Relief 2 oz .999 Fine Silver RoundColonial Tribute SeriesIntaglio COA George Washington Funeral MedalThe entire nation fell into mourning on December 14, 1799, with the passing of the Father of Our Country, George Washington. There wasn’t an American alive that did not feel the loss of the great man that helped guide us from colonies to Country. There were many innumerable celebrations held in cities, towns, and villages throughout the land for months to follow. On February 11, 1800, in Boston, Massachusetts, more than 1,600 Masons (Washington was a Mason), marched and celebrated both the anniversary of this birth and his recent death. Large crowds gathered for the event. It’s thought that the Skull and Crossbones medals were made in early 1800, shortly after the passing of Washington, but before the Mason’s Parade on February 11, 1800, where both the marchers and the spectators wore the medals in tribute.Contains 2 oz.
