Description: Inga aka ice cream bean is a wonderful tree to add to your garden and food forest. It is technically a legume and fixes nitrogen into your soil. It is a fast growing tree with beautiful foliage and is often used to create biomass for chop and drop applications. This tree requires nearly no maintenance and is very hardy. I have grown trees in containers and fruited them but they love the ground. The potted tree in the pictures is the tree that you’ll receive. FREE shipping!! This tree produces pods that range from 6-10” and are said to be one of the best tasting ones and very juicy. I am not positive which species this one is. Likely fueillei or vera or possibly a hybrid. The pods that are produced have beans that are covered in a fluffy white coating, which is the part that is eaten and where this tree gets it’s name, Ice Cream Bean, since the flavor resembles vanilla and it melts in your mouth. Some species have edible seeds which can be pickled or cooked. Side note, anyone selling Inga EDULIS should be carefully examined because 99% of the time it is not the real Inga edulis.
