Dimensions: 11.0" W x 12.5" H x 7.0" DThis is a metal statue of Shiva in Veerabhadhra* form - a ferocious warrior form of Shiva**The carvings are highly detailed and enhance the beauty of this dynamic statue. Exquisitely detailed, this collectible depicts - a seated Veerabhadra - with his hands in a peaceful alert Mudra - holding a dagger and a shield - Veerabhadra is a form of Siva and that association is highlighted by the prominent third eye on his forehead- With a tall crown, earrings, a long necklace, armlets, a waistband and anklets, his ornamentation is complete- The moustache highlights the folk aspects of this statue- his nipples, belly button and knees, disproportionately small size of his attributes and bulging eyes are worth noting- His broad shoulders, coupled with a narrow waist, and dagger on the right side of his waist highlight the warrior aspects of Veerabhadra. This is a single, hollow cast and given its height, it is very likely this was a processional bronze. This bronze is from North Deccan and may date to the late nineteenth century.* Virabhadra symbolizes the sharp incisive power of discrimination, potent in each of us, to sever attachments to conceited values, misplaced faith and the routines that we all run through thoughtlessly. He points out to our adulation of that which should not be esteemed; and to our neglect of that which ought to be valued. Virabhadra’s message is to open our heart, to embrace everything that life has given us, without fear or prejudice. Virabhadra destroys in order to save.A prized find, this old collectible is elaborately detailed.** Virabhadra (Sanskrit: वीरभद्र, romanized: Vīrabhadra,) or 'auspicious hero is a fierce form of the Hindu god ShivaApproximate Dimensions: 11.0" W x 12.5" H x 7.0" DAs a symbol, Shiva Nataraja is a brilliant invention. It combines in a single image Shiva's roles as creator, preserver, and destroyer of the universe and conveys the Indian conception of the never-ending cycle of time.Although it appeared in sculpture as early as the fifth century, its present, world-famous form evolved under the rule of the Cholas. Shiva's dance is set within a flaming halo. The god holds in his upper right hand the damaru (hand drum that made the first sounds of creation). His upper left hand holds agni (the fire that will destroy the universe). With his lower right hand, he makes abhayamudra (the gesture that allays fear). The dwarflike figure being trampled by his right foot represents apasmara purusha (illusion, which leads mankind astray).Shiva's front left hand, pointing to his raised left foot, signifies refuge for the troubled soul. The energy of his dance makes his hair fly to the sides. The symbols imply that, through belief in Shiva, his devotees can achieve salvation.Seen here standing on a lotus base over a plinth, In dance firm, dressed in a short close-fitting dhoti draped in folds, secured with a sash, adorned with multiple necklaces, bracelets, and the sacred thread, the handsome and beautiful face flanked by long ears wearing large circular earrings on one side, arm bands and anklets and surmounted by a large headdress. The solid brass statue captures the strength and dynamism in form and spirit, beautifully illustrates the benevolent divine grace in a timeless symbol.Only one of these statues is ever made.*Lost-wax Method or madhuchchhishtavidhana or cire perdue is the method of pouring molten metal into the hollow of a mould.
