Description: I Never Met an Animal I Didn't Like by Rory C. Foster 1987 Franklin Watts Hardcover with dust jacket inches by inches pages. Gently read; no writing, tears or highlighting. (from the dust jacket) On June 19; 1982, Rory Foster's dream came true - the official opening of the Northwoods Wildlife Center in Minocqua Wisconsin. The valiant crusade of this dedicated veterinarian to set up a center where sick and injured wildlife could be treated and rehabilitated has been chronicled in his highly acclaimed book, Dr. Wildlife. In late 1984, however, Dr. Foster faced the greatest challenge of his life when he was diagnosed as having Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. As the months went by, Dr, Wildlife was forced to relinquish his participation in the wildlife clinic and in his own small-animal hospital. Never one to give up the fight, Rory put his time to writing down more of his experiences with both wildlife patients and small pets. Underlying, many of his accounts are poignant lessons in everything from abandonment to cruelty. He rescues a kitten brutally thrown from a car window in Alaska. The government agencies, the so-called scientists, and unthinking pet owners all fall prey to Dr. Foster's irony. When he is offered a job as the vet for a roadside zoo where they have "Hundreds of Animals, Acres of Fun," you can guess the outcome. You will even meet the one animal who finally filled him with terror -a fisher. Dr. Foster doesn't always triumph in these pages. His first employer and close friend, Dr. T:J. Dunn, puts him to the test in "Dunn In." Rory's wife, Linda, has always been closely involved with his work, and she too can get the best of him occasionally. Spending time with Dr. Rory Foster is an experience and a pleasure for all who care about our wildlife and our four-legged friends. Rory C. Foster, an alumnus of Michigan. State University Veterinary School, has practiced small-animal and wildlife 'medicine and surgery in the Northwoods of Wisconsin since his graduation in 1974. His work with wild animals led to the construction of the first wildlife hospital in the Midwest, and to the writing of his 1985 book Dr. Wildlife. The veterinarian called " America's Herriot" by the Milwaukee Journal lives with his wife, Linda, and their three children, Ali, Mike, and Rori Elizabeth in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
