Description: Nice medium sized ceramic figurine vase of two desert quail sitting on a branch, crafted by Joshua Tree, California artist Howard Pierce. Branch has a hole behind the taller quail to be used as a vase or planter. Glazed in Pierce's trademark volcanic textured glaze in dark brown and grey, with the quails' bellies being a light grey glossy glaze. Delightful details in the feathers and wood texture. Underside is marked with "HOWARD PIERCE" stamp which indicates 1960s-1990s vintage. There is also an "E" written in grease pencil on the unglazed underside. One of Howard's larger pieces at 1.5 pounds, a great addition to desert modern decor or a Pierce collection.
