Description: Howard Chandler Christy (1872-1952) was an American artist and Illustrator. Although famously noted for his "Christy Girl," he is also known for his WWI military recruitment posters. After the war, he turned to portraits, painting Theodore Roosevelt, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, and Harry Truman among other significant people. He also taught art at Cooper Union, the Chase School, New York School of Art, and The Art Students League. This Autograph Letter Signed was written on a 11 x 8.5 inch sheet of hotel stationery that is imprinted "The Mayflower Connecticut Ave. and De Sales St. Washington, D.C." and is hand dated by Christy: Dec. 22, 1939. To "Dear Mildred Pepper". In part: "I was awfully [sic] bowled over when I found that wonderful box of Florida fruit waiting for me here at the hotel when I arrived from New York late last night and I want to thank you and the Senator. . . . " In conclusion: "Very very best to you both and warmest affection thrown in - always from Howard C. C."
