Description: At 3 billion years old Lewisian Gneiss is one of the oldest rocks in the world and the oldest in the UK. This Gneiss is collected from the Isles of Lewis, Harris, Skye and Mull, and also Hornblende occurs widely in metamorphic and igneous rocks. Pargasite occurs in high-grade metamorphic rocks that tend to have more aluminum. Metamorphic rocks with abundant hornblende are called amphibolites.
