Description: Proudly presented today is this extraordinary Hopi Kachina doll, depicting the seldom seen Mastop. This Kachina, which only appears on Third Mesa, is associated with the first ceremony of the Kachina calendar, the Soyal. Coming into the village from the northwest, in groups, they beat any dogs they encounter in the village, and have simulated intercourse with all the women, regardless of age, who are down on the level of the dance plaza. This is a VERY important fertility rite, associated with the winter equinox. Still, it is a very unusual Kachina. This wonderful example, standing 8 inches tall, was carved by Earl Arthur, a highly respected carver of immense talent. Earl's work has always been reverent and understated, never glitzy or gimmicky, and the colors are rich, but subdued and never garish. Earl carves for mainstream collectors, at a price which makes his beautiful Kachina dolls within reach of everyone. Buy with confidence, because as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason, i will immediately return the full purchase price, including return shipping. Many Thanks for your kind consideration, and as always, Best Regards, Rich
