Reverend Robert E. Smith, pastor of Pequea Presbyterian Church, journeyed across the Welsh Mountain and began to preach in a place called "the Run". The property lay somewhere near the Old Blue Ball Bank. In 1785 the present property was purchased for $13.33. In 1786 the church building was constructed; it was reconstructed in 1827. The Sunday School of Cedar Grove has had a continuous history since 1820, and it is considered to be the oldest Sunday School in continuous operation in Lancaster County. In 1839, Cedar Grove separated from Pequea Presbyterian Church. In 1850 the manse was erected at a cost of $2,400. In 1952 the church building was enlarged. Additional property was acquired in 1972.
