All of these sound best with the rear lips of the cover plates folded back like the older pre WW2 harps often were. The box shows light wear. **There may be minor physical imperfections as the instrument is in fact used but refurbished;it's not new.I shoot for the best all as found condition in stock candidates for refurbishing. **" The last photo was taken of one of my instruments just before final reassembly. As you can see, the brass reed plates are very shiny and not just burnished. I do not use electronic cleaning machines. Anyone can do that, but it's better than not cleaning! All work is done completely by hand. I'm very pleased with the results and I'm confident you will be pleased with your vintage refurbished Hohner Marine Band 1896. A Few Words AboutYour Health: You will find that Marine Band No. 1896 harps can be bought a few dollars cheaper than mine, butmany are a healthrisk!! Most 'as found' instruments may easily (and often do) contain things like Black Mold, rust, dust, Asbestos, Nicotine and hardened saliva. These contaminants (and others) are more often than not found inside unserviced and neglected harmonicas. There's no way an aspiring player or even a pro can tell what might lay underneath the shiny covers of the average used harp in pictures on the Web. The only healthy choices are obtaining either a refurbished unit or a new one. "As found" harps also may have hidden mechanical failures such as broken or misaligned reeds. Saliva buildup on the reeds throws the tuning off. Summary: If you want the security of buying a fine quality, vintage instrument serviced by someone with 40+ years experience in various music instrument care & repair; then please try my item.
