Description: HO Scale Rivarossi / AHM Virginia &Truckee Railroad Oldtime Coach Car #6235 Two years ago, my father passed and I received the remnants of his HO Scale train collection, consisting of a diesel locomotive, several switchers, a beat-up steam locomotive and a collection of track and some freight cars. From that collection I found one locomotive, a Virginia & Truckee Railroad Genoa 4-4-0 which required repairs and restoration, and it showed me that these trains can be repaired, refurbished, and restored to operational condition for many more years of enjoyment by model railroad enthusiasts...without having to pay hundreds of dollars for the newer models. Since then, I have searched for damaged, non-functional steam locomotives of the 2-4-0 and 4-4-0 configurations to repair and restore. In this way, I honor my father and attempt to pass on his love for model railroading to others who search for these vintage locomotives. As I acquired locomotives to repair, there were times when I had the chance to acquire some of the freight and passenger cars that went with that particular railroad line. Virginia & Truckee was the first of the rail lines I focused on and, as a result, I acquired a number of them. Some actually DID need some restoration work, mainly to replace damaged and missing trucks and axles or couplers. Sometimes there would be dirt or dust to clean off, but mostly the cars were in great condition. However, as I began to amass a collection of trains and freight cars, I found I had more than I needed, so now is the time to offer some of these hard-to-find cars to other model railroad enthusiasts who want to add to their collections! So what are you getting?You're receiving one (1) Oldtime Coach Car #6235 for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad line (V&TRR). The car is in excellent condition, cleaned and confirmed ready to hit the tracks as a part of your old-time steam locomotive line. Whether it is a JW Bowker, Genoa, Reno, Inyo or other American standard steam locomotive for the Virginia & Truckee line, with this passenger car, you'll be on your way to a set that can be added to a steam locomotive and pulled down the tracks to display your love of vintage locomotives! This particular passenger car appears to have received some attention some time in the past as evidenced by some changes. In particular, the roof of the car is colored black rather than the grey normally found on the ones for V&TRR. It is possible that it was painted black in the past since vintage cars like these were modified by their owners to suit their personal tastes. In addition, it appears that the corners of the car were painted green as well as the doors on either end. This was possibly done to add something different from the yellow paint scheme of the rest of the car. The windows of the car have a plastic cover that remains intact. Something different from other versions released, unlike other designs that feature "V&TRR" on the sides, this one has the entire name "Virginia & Truckee" on both sides of the car. In addition, you'll also see the embossed placard / decal "38" on both sides of the car. Also, while most freight and passenger cars have hook and horn couplers on either end of the car, this one has kadee couplers on both sides, with visible spring action not just a plastic mold. It isn't known if these couplers are original or were replaced later. Lastly, the trucks and axles appear to have been replaced with metal axles and the suspension pieces of the trucks include actual springs rather than the molded plastic springs. These passenger and freight cars are hard to come by. Most of them were created by Rivarossi of Italy back in the 1970's and are incredibly hard to find fully intact. Usually offered under the AHM brand, vintage cars like this are a great addition to a collection. After all, over time plastic breaks and once damaged, they usually become discarded.
