Description: THIS SALE IS FOR THE HK 1/32 B-17 G "A Bit 'O Lace". HAS INTERIOR LIGHTS, REALISTIC SOUNDS OF ENGINE START UP AND ROTATING PROPS AS ENGINES START!!! A "Bit 'O Lace" was a Vega manufactured B-17G that served with the 709th BS with the 447th BG out of Rattlesden, England. It was delivered 4/21/44 and served throughout the end of hostilities in Europe. It was involved in 2 landing accidents in England, completed 86 missions without a injury or loss of a crewman and returned to the US on 7/7/45. It was scrapped at Kingman, AZ on 9/11/45. All of the photos of the aircraft that survive show her toward the end of her combat life with all the scrapes and scratches from flak, 2 crashed landing and multiple repairs/engine replacements. I chose to build her with only minor wear and tear after 5 of her missions. She has a detailed interior as per the photos and has been wired so that the interior is lit, formation lights come on and engines start with actual sound as per the real thing. Start-up sound comes from a digital recording of Yankee Girl. The base HK kit has been enhanced with details in the nose, cockpit, radio room and waist. Wood (simulated) flooring added, instruments greatly detailed. The kit engines were replaced with detailed replicas. The electronics package is from Magic Scale Modeling. As you can see, detailing is fairly advanced. Markings can be weathered further or left as is at your request. The top canopy is designed to be left unglued so you can see details, but I will glue it in place to improve the seam if you like. NOTE: Many of the photos were taken during the build to show detail that might not be readily visible after assembly. If you notice parts missing in these, rest assured, the parts are all there in the final assembly - for instance the close up of the navigator's table with its instruments was made without the Norden bomb sight or the bombardier's seat in place. WITH THESE VERY LARGE AIRCRAFT THEY CAN BE PICKED UP AT MY SHOP HOUSTON AT NO CHARGE INSTEAD OF BEING SHIPPED. MY PREFERENCE IS THAT YOU DO LOCAL PICK UP BUT WILL SHIP AS OUTLINED BELOW. I AM A CUSTOM, COMMERCIAL GRADE MODEL BUILDER. I HAVE PLANES IN THE PENSACOLA NAVAL AIR MUSEUM AS WELL AS 100'S OF UNITS SOLD TO INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMERS. I HAVE BUILT THIS KIT (THE HK UNIT) MULTIPLE TIMES. IT IS AN EXCELLENT KIT FOR DETAIL EVEN IF NOT ENHANCED. MOST OF THE INTERIOR DETAIL IS VISIBLE DUE TO THE KIT CONSTRUCTION and ASSEMBLY. WHEN I DESCRIBE MYSELF AS A "COMMERCIAL GRADE MODELER" WHAT I MEAN IS THAT MY ABILITIES TYPICALLY EXCEED WHAT A CLIENT CAN AFFORD TO PAY. I AM NOT BUILDING UNITS THAT WILL OUTSHINE TOP OF THE LINE MODEL BUILDERS, BUT THE LEVEL OF THEIR WORK IS SIMPLY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR MOST CONSUMERS. MY BUILDS ARE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH LOTS OF DETAIL, EXTENSIVE RESEARCH TO ENSURE ACCURACY AND FINISHING THAT PLACES THEM IN THE 95% BRACKET OF EXCELLENCE WITHOUT OVERDOING IT TO A POINT NO ONE CAN PURCHASE. CHECK MY FEEDBACK FOR SOLD/BUILT KITS TO GET AN IDEA. I USE A GREAT DEAL OF REFERENCE MATERIAL AND HISTORICAL DOCUMENTATION TO RESEARCH EACH AIRCRAFT IN THE INTEREST OF CREATING A REPRODUCTION IN MINIATURE THAT ACCURATELY REPRESENTS THE TARGET AIRCRAFT. SOME OF THE REFERENCE BOOKS I USE ARE SHOWN IN THE PHOTO, BUT BY NO MEANS ALL. IF YOU REQUIRE SOMETHING OTHER THAN A 17, I HAVE AN EXTENSIVE SET OF RESEARCH DATA FOR ALMOST ALL US WWII AND NEWER AIRCRAFT. DUE TO THE SIZE AND CONCERN OVER SHIPPING A LARGE, DELICATE ITEM, I INSURE AND PACK MYSELF. PACKING AND INSURANCE WILL RUN $200 ON THIS HIGHLY DETAILED UNIT TO THE LOWER 48...THE ONLY PLACE I WILL SHIP. MY PREFERENCE IS THAT YOU PICK UP LOCALLY. I am often asked why does the shipping cost so much. In order to successfully ship large kits like this, a great deal of customization has to be done to the packing. It cannot be packed by the shippers as these are far too detailed and intricate for them to pack without inflicting damage. I pack each one and typically do so with a floating package inside a box which when complete is placed inside another box. The boxes are large since the AC are very large (The plane has an approximate wingspan of 40" and length of approximately 28"). All this means you have a large package with substantial weight...bear in mind that you are buying a detailed luxury item so if the shipping cost is a problem...you can pick it up for free or make the decision not to buy. PLEASE NOTE: I SHIP FULLY INSURED AND MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO SAFELY BOX AND SHIP THESE. HOWEVER, IF YOU BUY THE AC THE FOLLOWING TERMS APPLY:1) I DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE PLANE WITH ARRIVE WITHOUT DAMAGE AND YOU WILL NOT POST NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FOR ANY DAMAGE FROM SHIPPING.2) IN THE EVENT OF MAJOR DAMAGE - I FULLY INSURE, SO WHEN YOU GET THE AC, YOU WILL IMMEDIATELY REPORT DAMAGE AND TAKE PHOTOS OF SAME AND TAKE THE ISSUE UP WITH THE SHIPPER. I WILL SUPPORT YOU IN ANY WAY THAT I CAN AND WILL HAVE PHOTOS OF THE AC AS IT IS BEING BOXED TO PROVE IT WAS SHIPPED UNDAMAGED.3) IN THE EVENT OF MINOR DAMAGE -DEFINED AS BROKEN PROPS, WHEELS, ANTENNA, GUN BARRELS AND OTHER SMALL ITEMS - YOU AGREE TO REPAIR THESE YOURSELF.4) IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THESE TERMS...THEN PICK IT UP LOCALLY OR DO NOT BUY. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR SOME TIME AND HAVE HAD GOOD SUCCESS WITH PACKING THESE LARGE ITEMS, BUT AS STATED, I CANNOT GUARANTEE NO DAMAGE. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR REQUIRE CLARIFICATIONS, PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA EBAY. I ALSO CAN PROVIDE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS IF THOSE ARE REQUIRED TO HELP YOU DECIDE. THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST.
