Description: History Of Ancient Art, John Winckelmann, 1880 complete set of volumes 1 & 2 (containing within volumes 1 through 4 of the previous set) (vol. 1 contains vols. one and two, and vol. two contains vols. 3 and 4). EX LIBRARY ("removed" from Great Barrington Free Library) with associated markings, stickers, stamps, and also tears from someone removing the library papers in the back). There is still light golden sheen to the page edges at the top of the books; page edges of the bottom and long end are ungilded/plain. These books have plenty of signs of use, wear, and age; please note that sections of the pages, while not actually loose or unattached from the book, are no longer securely and tightly bound to the spine area. The covers, while still attached on the outside, have the overlaying paper torn or tearing from the first and last pages. The books do contain writing inside the covers/some beginning/end pages, most of it likely from the library. There is some yellowing of the pages due to age, page corners are pretty nice and not dog-eared, covers show normal signs of use/wear/shelving for a book of this age; also, the library has written on the bottom of the spine. These books were translated from the German of John Winckelmann by G. Henry Lodge, M.D., and were printed in 1880 in Boston by James R. Osgood and company. A University Press book.
