Product Description After it's initially installed, the lid is completely air tight and water tight, having a rubber gasket. Later, when you're ready to break the seal (by tearing away the lower skirt of the front lid section), the lid hinges open. The lid has molded-in latches to hold it open, and also has a clip-over latch that holds it securely in the closed position. After the initial seal is broken, the lid (when in the closed position) is close-fitting, but is no longer air or water tight. The closeness of the fit is such that if held upside down with some water inside, the water will come out in a fast trickle. We have tested the lid's hinge to over 1000 open/close cycles. Made of food-safe virgin polypropylene and polyethylene.
