Cocktails overtook Hollywood movie screens in the 1930s and during the Great Depression. Nearly every movie showed one or more characters with a stylish liquor cabinet. Just think of The Thin Man. All that came to an end with World War II in 1941. The energy was directed toward the war effort, and companies that once made cocktail shakers now produced artillery shells. After the war, very few people dusted off their cocktail shaker sets. They ended up in attics and closets. There, they would sit, waiting for nearly half a century to return to their rightful popularity. Thankfully, cocktail culture is with us again.
