His influence came from naturalist painters, Ruisdael and Constable. In the late 1840’s, Rousseau had founded the Barbizon School named after his favorite region and landscape subject, and that included other artists such as Corot, Daubigny, Diaz, and Millet. Rousseau’s work became well known and sought after in the 1850’s. However, he preferred to remain in his cottage in Barbizon, where he died in 1867.HERMITAGE museum collection The State Hermitage is one of the world biggest art and culture museums.
