Helen Morgan (August 2, 1900 – October 9, 1941) She was an American singer and actress who worked in films and on the stage. Singer/actress Helen Morgan was an iconic figure of the 1920s. Helen Morgan was a nightclub performer known for her heart-rending interpretations of torch songs. She sang songs describing romantic devotion to wayward men, which she sang from her perch on top of a piano. Morgan's natural environment was the nightclub, in particular, the '20s speakeasy. She also made records and appeared in vaudeville, on Broadway, in movies and on radio. Her most memorable portrayal was that of the doomed mulatto Julie in stage and film productions of the musical Show Boat. In addition, she appeared in four other Broadway shows and nine other Hollywood movies. Her recordings for Brunswick and Victor produced a series of singles that resulted in six American hits. This CD presents her 1st early recordings that were made in the UK in 1927. Also on this release are her best selling Victor recordings that have become classics. Morgan's song interpretations include her dramatic and gripping delivery that made her famous. All recordings have been digitally restored by Vintage Recordings. ******************************************************* Helen Morgan (UK & US Recordings) [1920’s Torch Singer, Stage and Screen Star] (Recorded 1927-1930) Several Items will have a symbol next to a song.
