The instrument has its original certificate dated 22 October 1965 which matches its serial number of 65408.Heath has been making fine instruments for 160 plus years. This model represents the best dollar value of any professional sextant available. Its design incorporates all the basic features of more expensive instruments, and has proven itself over many years of successful use by professionals and yachtsmen alike. A unique feature of Heath sextants is that the rack teeth are cut on the backside of the limb, thereby reducing radial pressure (and wear) on the pivot arm and increasing chances for long-term accuracy. SPECIFICATIONSFrame - Three-circle design in brass, with black wrinkle finish. Arc - Divided from -5 to 125 degrees. Black engravings on brass. Radius 6.4 inches. Micrometer Drum - Held securely to shaft with spanner nut. Screw adjustment for zero shaft endplay. Vernier reads 0.2'. Mirrors - Index-44.5 mm X33.3 mm. Horizon- 33.3 mm X 31.8 mm. Shades - Full set of 7 special sextant-neutral shade glasses. Limb - Teeth cut on backside. Telescope - 3 X 28.5 Weight- 3 lbs. 11 Oz’s. Case- Made from laminated plywood with a very thin outer oak veneer, complete with latch. Appears to have been a presentation item. Does NOT include the key for the lock.
