Description: HAROLD LAND- Harold In The Land Of Jazz: 1st Ed Press of his DEBUT LP: EX & VG+ HAROLD LAND- Harold In The Land Of Jazz: 1st Ed Press of his DEBUT LP: EX & VG+ Description Wikipedia provides this short biographical sketch of one of the most underrated Saxophonists of the Bop Era: "Harold de Vance Land (December 18, 1928 – July 27, 2001) was an American hard bop and post-bop tenor saxophonist. Land developed his hard bop playing with the Max Roach/Clifford Brown band into a personal, modern style; often rivaling Clifford Brown's instrumental ability with his own inventive and whimsical solos. His tone was strong and emotional, yet hinted at a certain introspective fragility." The talented Jazz Pianist Carl Perkins performs on what was likely his final recording here with Harold Land. This recording session occurred in January 1958, and Carl sadly passed away at the young age of 29 less than 2 months later. Harold Land – Harold In The Land Of Jazz Label: Contemporary Records – C3550 Original 1st Edition Pressing / DEBUT LP (as leader) Format: Vinyl, LP & Album, Mono: Please See below for the Deadwax Matrix Country: US Released: 1958 Genre: Jazz Style: Hard Bop THE VINYL - Lightly played with minimal evidence of spindlewear, both sides of the LP retain much of their original gloss with bright, Yellow and Black Contemporary Records labels (please see photos). Visually, both sides are EX. Both sides have some light marks, there are no deep marks, and all tracks play through with no skipping or sticking. Here are some other results of my play grade : Side A : EX : Track A-3 has a mark that creates a light but audible click, however the remaining tracks on this side are generally quiet. Side 2 : VG+ : Track B-1 has some crackling that quiets down about half way through. The rest of Side B plays with occasional clicks that are audible but not noisy. The mono sound quality is strong on both sides. THE COVER - EX : Well-stored with some scuffing / laminated front and back / bright colors / on the back cover, there is some age-related yellowing and a small amount of scuffs on the bottom (please see photo) / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact / no writing, fraying, paper loss, paper tears, or stains.
