Description: Interesting oil on panel, "The Rider on the Black Horse," by listed United Kingdom and New York artist Harold F. Collinson (1886-1955). Collinson lived and worked in Nottingham in England until the 1940s when he moved to New York. While in New York he taught at the City College of New York and exhibited at the Library of Congress and the Society of Graphic Artists. Collinson's work is in the Library of Congress and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Primarily known as a printmaker, this is a rare painting by Collinson. It depicts one of the horsemen of the apocalypse (from the Book of Revelations). The painting is signed lower right. The back of the painting bears an inscirption with Collinson's New York address as well as a label with a discussion of the painting. The painting measure 14" x 18" (painting size) and is in good condition with surface soiling. Framed as shown. Please see my other auctions for more fine paintings and prints.
