The lid is also very attractively decorated with elegantly simple, incised designs that may be intended to represent rice plant leaves as they grow in the paddy. Both form and design suggest that this rice cooker, or vegetable steamer, is both vintage and Japanese in design. .The hole drilled through the lid is to allow steam to escape rather than build up and rattle the lid while cooking. Steamer/cooker is about 4" in height, 8 3/4" wide, and 3 3/4" across its base. Weight is 2 lbs, 7 oz. Steamer/cooker is in excellent vintage condition and is free of defects of any kind.
