Description: Hand-Turned Wood BERLIN AIRLIFT Pilot12-Inch Diameter Commemorative Wall Display The piece we are offering for sale here was brought back to the United States by a known, identified American Berlin Airlift pilot who flew many missions to resupply the people of Berlin with what they needed when the occupying Russians cut off the land route between American occupied Germany and Russian occupied East Germany (where Berlin is located) just after World War II. This is a 1 inch thick 30-½ cm (12 inch) diameter Berlin Tempelhof Airport - Berlin Airlift commemorative wall hanging or display, carefully hand turned from a slab of wood and beautifully finished by a German craftsman. It weighs 1 pound 9 ounces. In the center is a 95 mm (3-¾ inch) metal disk with the Airlift Memorial in the background of a Douglas C-54 Skymaster aircraft on approach to Tempelhof. At the bottom is a ribbon on which it says Tempelhof Central Airport Berlin, Germany. For reference we have included information about the pilot and his service both in Europe in World War II and in the Berlin Airlift. We will supply identity information to the buyer of the item as mentioned at the bottom of the picture of his Army Air Force ID card. Our photos show the actual Berlin Airlift commemorative wall display that we are offering for sale. Condition exactly as shown.
