H Stern Sputnik Ring 18k Gold Garnet, Aquamarine, Amethyst, Tourmaline Size 7.75

Description: H Stern is known for his wonderfully designed pieces with brilliant gemstones (interestingly, the gemstones in his jewelry were taken from mines he owned), and the 18k yellow gold Sputnik ring is one of his most famous designs. The dome ring has high set bezel with deep set multi-color gemstones -- garnet, aquamarine, amethyst, citrine, and tourmaline. The color and quality of the gemstones along with the detailing of the arches supporting the dome and the smooth band with its delicate double lines along the side are specific to Stern's trademark design from the late 1950s. Of course, it is nicknamed a "Sputnik" ring because of its resemblance to the Soviet Satellite, so it is fitting that the design has become a historical piece of jewelry in its own right. A favorite quality for me about the design of his Sputnik rings is that the mix of gemstones is unique ring to ring, so even though the design and quality are the same for all of his Sputnik rings, each is one-of-a-kind. This particular ring came from the estate of a well-traveled jewelry collector, and it has been confirmed as 18k by a jeweler with the gemstone quality and exacting design specific to an original H. Stern ring. However, please note it is not signed (possibly due to ring resizing). As well there are some small scratches to some gemstone surfaces. The flaws are noticeable only on a close-up, and while I do not find them distracting, you may have different or more exacting expectations than me, so please look at all photos and ask questions before purchasing to judge the condition for yourself.
