The two brothers in-law Heinrich Henkel & Florentin Grosse started the company in 1907, producing high-quality braided hair jewellery. They eventually dropped the name Henkel, using Grosse alone, adding the accent above the e. Grosse' jewellery was worn by movie stars of the day. Marlene Dietrich bought the entire stock that was available in New York at the time... Grosse began designing jewellery for Christian Dior during the 50s and was in partnership with Dior in 1955.
