Description: Graphite Coated Lathed Wheels for Pinewood Derby Cars This product is for Pinewood Derby, Awana, Royal Rangers and other organizations that have races similar to the Pinewood Derby. 4 wheels per set. Axles not included. This is the NEW version of these wheels. These wheels are: Lathed just enough to make the wheel round within 0.005 inch and remove all bumps and other imperfections. Step is removed from outer hub and the hub is domed to reduce friction. Domed outer hub means that we remove the lip on the outer hub then taper the hub so that the head of the axle rides only on a small area surrounding the wheel bore reducing friction. All four wheels are from the same mold to match characteristics and improve performance. Graphite has been added to the four friction areas shown here. Our special process coats these areas with an even layer of high grade graphite. The graphite is bonded to the wheel so it will last many races. Our tests have shown no reduction in speed after more than 20 races! The areas of the wheel coated with graphite have a dark gray color that is close to but does not match the color of the wheel. This wheel is illegal in races that specify: Wheels cannot be impregnated with graphite. Graphite cannot be bonded to the wheels. This wheel should be legal in races that specify any of the following: Wheels must be the original shape as packaged in the Official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit. (Wheels must not be peaked, 'H'ed, humped, tapered, or narrowed. The only work allowable to any wheel is to remove manufacturing defects such as burrs or injection flanges. Wheels are not to be turned on a lathe, completely smoothed or modified. Some of the original surface must still be visible. Wheels may not be tapered or rounded. The wheels may be slightly sanded to remove any mold marks but may not be modified in any other way. Wheel treads must not be tapered, narrowed, rounded or grooved. Wheel treads must remain flat. Only the Official Scout Grand Prix wheels may be used. Wheels may be sanded (smoothed to remove knit/mold lines) but the wheel's profile may not be altered.
