Description: Gorgeous Antique Japanese Nacre Fish Lacquerware Box with Key. This wonderful little box has been made using the method of creating the decoration including mother of pearl. The fine slices of mother of pearl have been made to create the images of five different species of fish with some additional detail added. Their underwater world has been hand painted using red, gold, silver, white and bronze toned lacquer. The box has a shallow rectangular form with a hinged lid. The base, walls and interior are plain glossy black. The front has an embossed escutcheon and retains a key to lock the box. The lock is in working order. The box is in good used antique condition, it has some minor chipping of the lacquer as expected and has some cracking to the vertical corners. The box displays well and is secure.
