Gone with the Wind

Description: Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. True first printing ("May, 1936") Publisher & Year: New York: The Macmillan Company, 1936. -Edition: First edition, first printing (per May, 1936 and no other dates on the copyright page). The book was originally intended to be published in May of 1936, but was delayed until June to be released simultaneously with the book club edition. The publisher had already begun producing copies bearing the May date before the request to delay publication, and rather than destroy these copies, they simply resumed printing copies with the corrected date of June. Bibliographic reference: Bridges (1995, p. 7). -Condition and Description: Grey cloth with titles and ornaments in dark blue. Boards show rubbing and staining. Front hinge paper cracked, but with the webbing still secure. There is some play at the hinges, but they are not in danger of separating. The binding of the text block does remain tight, but the whole block can be moved around some between the two boards. Spine rather worn, with a little splitting of the cloth at the upper joint with the front/rear boards. Flaps from the first edition jacket have been glued onto the front pastedown. Stamps on rear endpaper. Lightly tanned papers, but largely clean with only minimal faults.
