Description: Item for auction is a 24.09g individual of the Gold Basin meteorite which was found in an area of arroyos draining the White Hills by Professor Jim Kriegh (UAz, emeritus) while prospecting for gold with a metal detector. *These particular specimens were found by a metal detectorist looking for gold, who saved the hot rocks without knowing they were meteorites back in the 1990s-2000s. This stone is adorned with 40% remnant fusion crust. As of 1997 November, 1484 stones have been recovered, with a total mass of 61.0 kg, from an area of ~130 km2. The largest individual stone has a mass of 1.52 kg. Classification and mineralogy (D. Kring, UAz): olivine, Fa24±1; pyroxene Fs20Wo1; kamacite contains 0.72 ± 0.09 wt% Co; weathering grade W2–3. The meteorite comes with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity / Specimen Card. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale. Big Kahuna combines shipping, and addresses must be in the English language, to facilitate customs input at US Postal Service.
