Description: These are freshly dug Ginger plants with nice thick roots. This type of ginger (Zingerber zerumbet) has large divided leaves with bright red showy flower brackets that form near the base of the plant. It likes sunny to semi-shady areas and can be grown safely outdoors up to zone 7, dying back in the winter and coming up in the late spring. It gets around 6 to 7 ft. tall and has no pest problems, likes moist soils, and is care free once established. These flowering ginger plants will form large colonies of plants as the roots gradually spread but they are not invasive. The red flower bracts are soft and when squeezed a clear shampoo like liquid comes out of them. It can be used like a shampoo on the hair or as a moisturizer on the hands, leaving no grease and giving the hair a shiny soft texture. You will be getting two large roots that can be planted outside right away just under the surface of the ground to come up in the spring or you can pot them up to grow inside during the winter on a sunny window sill or in a green house. North of zone 9, you should mulch these over the winter until they are established. I cannot ship outside the continental US. and do not accept returns. Shipping is $9.00 for each pair of roots. I accept payment through Paypal only.
