Description: Up for sale, a 1972 Gibson Les Paul Custom in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with original parts also includes original red lined hardshell case. A best-of-both-worlds scenario for players who want vintage wood and pickups but an otherwise near mint and fresh-feeling instrument, this Les Paul retains a pair of ‘70s Gibson T Top humbuckers and vintage Grover “bullseye” Rotomatic tuners. The instrument boasts modern gleaming gold Gibson hardware and plastic parts and a refret with medium jumbo fretwire, complete with a hand-carved bone nut.Quite lightweight for a Les Paul from this era at only 9lbs 10oz, the combination of a carved maple top and solid mahogany body deliver a classic Les Paul tonal profile, with the warmth and fullness of the mahogany balanced by the articulate top end and snappy attack provided by both the maple top and the ebony fretboard. All three pickup positions are distinct and rich sounding, with more snap and taut low end from the bridge pickup, while the neck pickup has the expected oomph and fullness. Professionally setup, we’ve dialed in this Les Paul Custom with fresh 10-46 strings, spot-on intonation, and low action.The three-piece mahogany neck has a profile carve which is one of Gibson’s most slender and fast-feeling C shapes of the early ‘70s, measuring .765" deep at the 1st fret, and tapering to .965" at the 12th. The new fretwire is practically perfect, with ample meat and crown, and the new hand-carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock has been fitted with vintage Grover Rotomatic "bullseye" tuning machines with distinctive concentric circles on the gear housings.All body routes are original and untouched, and the electronics include the original patent sticker T Top humbucker in the bridge position, and a matching T Top with a patent number embossed baseplate from the latter half of the '70s at the neck, identical in winding and output characteristics. The guitar has been fitted with a modern, boutique wiring harness with paper-in-oil capacitors and tightly spec'd CTS pots. The modern hardware and plastic parts exhibit sparingly little wear, a few light finish scratches, and one small shallow ding on the back near the cutaway (see photo). The neck profile is flawless.The original black tolex hardshell case is included. The case has a clean silver Gibson silkscreen on the exterior, all original and functional latches, and the stock handle.
