Description: A beautiful quality antique Georgian cylindrical, lidded lead glass butter dish with a star cut base. Both the body and lid have twelve columns of rectangular alternating strawberry cut panels and plain panels, between pillar cuts giving a chequered pattern look. The slightly domed lid has a faceted shoulder surmounted with a facet cut ball knop with bands of seven facets. The lid locates on an inset rim on the main body. The bowl of the body is round in section with straight sides below the inset shouldered rim. This butter dish dates to the early 19th century, around 1820, the Regency to late Georgian period. This relatively rare antique butter dish made of hand blown lead crystal glass with a greyish tinge, that has been beautifully hand cut. It is most possibly Anglo-Irish in origin. A very attractive and great quality butter dish, in excellent antique condition with some inevitable very minor marks and chipping (nibbling) to the rim . There is a small chip to the inside of the rim of the lid. No cracks nor restoration. There are tool or pincer marks to the underside on the knop. The body has the usual bubbles and other minor inclusions and tool marks within the metal and wear or mossing to the base commensurate with age and use. Some collectors may refer to these items as a bon-bon dish or trinket pot. This antique butter dish is a very decorative and useful piece of Georgian glassware for the table or sideboard.
