Description: Did you see that a 1955 Jackie Robinson game used bat just sold via auction last week for $588,000? My bat is NOT a Robinson gamer, but it is a professional model Louisville Slugger with an interesting possible connection to Jackie (as described below). My Buy It Now price is set at less than 1% of that $588K auction price, with all reasonable offers to be considered. Can't afford half a million dollars (or more) for a Jackie Robinson gamer? What if there was a less-expensive alternative? The offered bat is a PSA/DNA authenticated George Sisler H&B professional model coach's bat, circa 1946-48. It is 36" long and weighs a whopping 42.8 ounces. These specs match the specs of the bats that George Sisler used during his playing days. Babe Ruth and George Sisler were two of a very small group of professional baseball players who used bats that long & heavy through the 1920s. Be sure to read through the lengthy and detailed PSA/DNA letter of authenticity provided via the pictures. The Jackie Robinson connection is that this bat may have been used by George Sisler during spring training 1949 to help Jackie improve his swing and plate discipline. Jackie might even have tried out this big bat during those tutoring sessions. That season Jackie's offensive production went up so much that he won the MVP award in 1949. As explained in the PSA/DNA letter of authenticity, Sisler was employed by the Brooklyn Dodgers beginning in 1942 in various scouting, evaluating and coaching roles. His connection to Jackie Robinson, beginning in 1945 when Sisler scouted Jackie, is well established. In spring training of 1947, prior to Jackie's rookie season with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Sisler helped Jackie transition from playing 2nd base to playing 1st base. Then in spring training of 1949 Sisler spent many hours helping Jackie adjust his swing and improve his plate discipline. The PSA/DNA letter goes into greater depth and much information can be found online to substantiate the background information I have provided here. It seems quite likely that this bat was shipped to and used by Coach George Sisler sometime in the late 1940s. The mystery is that we don't which player(s), if any, might have received tutoring from it. Please ask any questions prior to making an offer or clicking on Buy it Now. I will cover the cost of insured shipping to anywhere in the continental USA. Otherwise, a fair shipping charge will be added. Being that this bat is properly and carefully described in this listing, and that it comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the well-respected PSA/DNA team, no returns are accepted.
