This is generally due to the older style of canvas used where the cracks form in the weave of the canvas. This is pretty common in older paintingsUnfortunately the painting was damaged and repaired. 2 of the photos have circled areas where the damage is. They're fairly hard to see. You can see the patches in the photos of the back of the paintingThe frame is in good vintage condition for an antique frame. There are a few minor dings and scratches.The painting is solid in it's frame George Sanders Bickerstaff (April 12, 1893, Marianna, Arkansas - July 12, 1954, Ukiah, California) George Bickerstaff was primarily a self-taught artist except for a brief period at the Art Institute of Chicago. He traveled frequently before moving to California in1922. His early years were spent in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Van Nuys. He was a prolific oil painter of mountain and desert scenes, his landscapes often include the rolling hills of California wildflowers. He often also painted seascapes, still life, western and Indian scenes. His paintings often sell for $2000-$5000 depending on condition.
