GEORGE EASTMAN - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 12/22/1925 - HFSID 144903 GEORGE EASTMAN George Eastman sends personal letter of thanks Typed Letter signed: "Geo Eastman", 1p, 8¼x7¼. Rochester, N.Y., 1925 December 22. On letterhead of Eastman Kodak Company, Eastman writes to Mr. Rutherford H. Towner, New York City. In full: "Through Mr. John E. Webber I have received a copy of your work 'Philosophy of Civilization', in two volumes. A superficial glance at it shows me that it has much matter in it that I will be interested in and I hope to read it carefully in the near future. Thank you very much for sending it to me. With the Season's Greetings, I am, Very truly yours," American inventor and manufacturer GEORGE EASTMAN (1854-1932) revolutionized the photography industry with his inventions of flexible film (1884) and the inexpensive Kodak box camera (1888). He entered the photographic plate-making business in 1880 after inventing a machine to coat glass plates. The mass production of his dollar Brownie camera in 1900 made photography available to children. Eastman's philanthropic gifts to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Rochester (New York) and the Eastman School of Music, which he founded, exceeded $100 million. Faint receipt stamp in upper right. Vertical and horizontal folds cross signature. Overall, fine condition.
