GEORGE BURNS - CONTRACT SIGNED 12/07/1982 CO-SIGNED BY: PIERRE COSSETTE - HFSID 165979 GEORGE BURNS and PIERRE COSSETTE George Burns and Pierre Cossette sign a contract for Burns to appear in a clip on the program, Salute!. Partly Printed Document Signed: "George Burns" as Performer, 1p, 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, 1982 December 7. Contract between Burns and Pierre Cossette Productions, Inc. for Burns to appear in a clip on the program, Salute!. Burns was to be paid "$863.50 + 10%" for the use of the clip, which was "1 minute from 'The Man Show'. Also signed: "Pierre Cossette" as Producer, Pierre Cossette Productions, Inc. The clip mentioned in this document likely refers to Burns' 1977 TV special, The George Burns One-Man Show, on which Bob Hope, Ann-Margret, the Captain & Tennille and Gladys Knight also appeared. In the year he signed this document, Burns appeared on three TV specials, George Burns in Concert, Night of 100 Stars and Bob Hope Laughs With the Movie Awards, and a made-for-TV film, Two of a Kind. We could find no reference to a program entitled Salute!, but this is possibly a segment of a Grammy Awards telecast. Canadian-born PIERRE COSSETTE, who is known as "Mr. Grammy", televised the first Grammy Awards show in 1971. He produced the shows, which grew from modest telecasts to today's arena-scale entertainment extravaganzas for 35 years, turning over the reins to his son, John, in 2005. Over his long career in the entertainment business, Cossette, who has been honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, has also been a talent agent, personal manager, record-label executive (he co-founded Dunhill Records with Lou Adler) and the producer of a number of TV specials for such stars as Glen Campbell, Sammy Davis, Jr., Sha Na Na, Dionne Warwick and Andy Williams. George Burns (1896-1996) starred on vaudeville, radio and television and in motion pictures. He co-starred with his wife, Gracie Allen, until her retirement in 1958 (she died in 1964), then continued performing as a solo act. When he returned to films in 1975 after a 30-year hiatus, Burns won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Sunshine Boys. He later starred in the title role in Oh, God (1977) and appeared in Going in Style (1979) and 18 Again! (1988). The comedian, who was honored on television specials celebrating his 90th and 95th birthdays (he died at the age of 100), also wrote Gracie, A Love Story (1988) and 100 Years, 100 Stories (1996). Lightly creased. Slightly soiled at upper right blank margin. Staple holes at upper left blank corner, 2 file holes at upper blank margin. Fine condition.
