Very good, light wear to outermost pages. Done in aniline (purple) spirit duplication (i.e. dittos), 77 pp, printed on front sides only. This was probably typed up by a secretary for Mr. Logan, although he might have done the typing himself, and was originally done just for family members, but the memoir was published in its entirety across 4 consecutive issues of the 1968 Western Pennsylvania Historical Magazine; they either had this copy or one like it, to work with, and the published version had an introduction by Robert D. Christie. Logan (1845-1929) was one of the children of John T. Logan (1809-1871), who partnered with a cousin of his named Kennedy to open up a hardware store in Pittsburgh in 1831. The business prospered and Logan diversified into investment in railroads and other businesses; they lived in a large North Side estate called Woodlawn, bounded by Western, Allegheny and Ridge Avenues. The memoir is well written and describes in great detail Logan's childhood and upbringing in Old Allegheny, including battles with other gangs, baseball games, and his entry into his father's business, which he would eventually take over. His travels took him to Duluth, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, etc., and are also entertaining. We could locate no holdings in institutions of this edition nor any subsequent edition. Very good.
