About Remarques: A remarque is an original and unique pencil drawing done by the artist in the bottom margin on a limited edition print from the edition. The subjects of the drawing is usually created from the subject and theme of the print itself. About This Print: Cover art for the Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series book. Sunset in the Indian Ocean, viewed from the upper masts of HMS Otter. The Otter, a ship-sloop, was a relatively small vessel with 18 guns. Beyond her are the larger frigates Boadicea, Sirius, and Nereide. All the ships are busy shortening sail and taking in their topgallants - a common precaution at nightfall if squalls were expected. Artist's Biography: From 1966 - 1970, Geoff Hunt studied graphic design at Kingston and Epsom Schools of Art. After two years in advertising, he became a freelance artist and designer. He was art editor of the Warship Journal from 1977 - 1979, and typographer/designer on many books on marine subjects. Now dedicated to painting full-time, he is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Geoff Hunt's work is found in the Royal Naval Museum, Royal Submarine Museum, Scrimshaw Gallery and private collections worldwide. Sailing has been an ongoing passion, which contributes to the accurate portrayals for which Mr. Hunt has become known. He is best recognized for painting the covers of the Patrick O'Brian novels, described by the NY Times as "The best historical novels ever written." Mr. Hunt, when not on the water or in the library reading old log books, can be found in England with his wife and two sons.
