Description: Tokyo: Shogakkan (Shougakukan, Shogakukan), 1967. First Edition, First Printing. Folio, 14 1/4" x 10" , 232 pp. Profusely illustrated with plates and gatefolds. Text in Japanese, with English translation for list of plates. Cloth, pictorial jackey, pictoiral slipcase. Book is in fine condition, jacket in sharp near fine; slipcase shows some soiling and edgewear, is very good. Number 13 in Shogakkan's deluxe and comprehensive - and oversized - 30-volume series, Genshoku Nihon no Bijutsu, treating the primary colors of Japanese art. This volume focuses on Partition and Sliding Door paintings, and includes 146 pages illustrating 105 works of art with several gatefolds, followed by 86 pages of an in-depth text section (in Japanese) with black and white illustrations. Bear in mind that this book reads in traditional Japanese format, starting from what we in the west would call the back of the book, so the text portion, to a westerner, is at the "front". Beautiful, large, rarely accessible in the west in any form; this is a first printing. Lavish format.
