Description: Frida K. Painting Lilies Day of the Dead Skeleton Signed Mexican Folk Art Tin RetabloThis tin sign is a handmade wall hanging done in a retablo style. This piece of folk art ask for peace for Frida’s soul, in words and picture and is all hand painted directly onto the tin. The artwork shows the inside of Frida Kahlo’s “Casa Azul” or Blue House. An image of skeleton Frida is sitting with a paintbrush in hand. She is recreating a painting by her husband, Diego Rivera, which is called Nude with Calla Lilies. There is papel picado (punched paper in bright colors) hanging from the wall and Mexico’s Patron Saint, the Virgin of Guadalupe, in the cloud. The words are loosely translated as follows: “In Diego and Frida's blue house, Frida's spirit still appears. She continues to appear in their house, painting and doing other things. Virgin of Guadalupe, may her soul rest in peace forever.”The tin sign measures 9 inches across x 12 inches in height. Colors are bold and bright.Signed “Diaz.”This is an original piece of artwork, bought from the artist's family in Mexico City. The piece of tin used is not rigid. There may be light and camera shadows showing in the photo of the back of the tin. Because this is a handmade piece of art on a piece of scrap metal and because of the type of art, the artist intended irregularities, uneven edges, slight bends in the tin, some rust, scratches and paint splotches.
